Paintings
Watercolor came first for me. My senior college Honors project was a series of watercolors around the town (House in Granville, Baptist Church, Colwell Hall). I won the Shepardson Award on the strength of this work.
When I returned to painting full time in the 1990’s I became enamored of the unpredictability of oils and the effects therein. In college my oil paintings reflected my watercolor style (Middlebury Underpass, Main Street Middlebury, Merchant’s Row). I had not yet found the glory of playing with – and adding to – just laid-down colors. The changes and layering made for notable results.
